MSC provides employment readiness training, job search assistance, application and interview material preparation, and career planning support through Washington State’s Basic Food Employment and Training program.
Eligibility
Participants must meet the following program eligibility requirements:
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Receive Basic Food Assistance (SNAP)
- Able to work at least 20 hours per week
- Live in King County in one of the following cities: Auburn, Federal Way, Des Moines, Burien, Tukwila, SeaTac, Kent and Renton
- Engage in regular meetings with MSC staff
You are not eligible for assistance if you are receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA), State Family Assistance (SFA), or other case assistance under Title IV such as Tribal Assistance.

What to expect
- Initial intake session to confirm eligibility and review your strengths and goals
- You will meet with an MSC staff member regularly to discuss your goals and next steps
- Referrals and support connecting with partner agencies for trainings, job fairs, and employment opportunities
- Opportunities for limited financial assistance to overcome barriers to your career goals (transportation, interview clothing)

Basic Food application
MSC can provide information, pre-screening, and assistance with completing an application for Washington State’s Basic Food Program. Basic Food is what Washington calls the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a USDA program that helps people make ends meet and improve their diet. Eligible households receive an electronic benefits (EBT) card with monthly benefits to buy food at participating grocery stores. MSC does not provide cards, but will help you apply for one.
