Peer Support: Exploring a new program
October 29, 2026 | LTCOP

The King County Long-Term Care Ombuds Program is exploring a new resident peer advocacy initiative inspired by the PEER (Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Residents) model. The program would support residents in advocating for themselves and their fellow residents, helping strengthen resident voice, connection, and engagement in long-term care communities.
“One of the things I love about the PEER model is that it recognizes the expertise residents already have,” said Meghan Vinson, Regional Long-Term Care Ombuds for King County. “I’m excited to explore what this could look like in King County and hopeful that what we learn may eventually help inform similar efforts in other parts of Washington.”
This opportunity is being made possible through a generous gift from the estate of a former King County long-term care resident. Planning is underway and we look forward to sharing more about this exciting initiative in the months ahead. Stay tuned for updates!
