Choice means a lot to MSC’s food bank customers! Last month, MSC was able to purchase halal meat for our food bank. During a visit, one of our regular clients noticed the halal symbol on the chicken and their face instantly brightened with joy.
We did not usually see this customer select meat at the food bank before and realized that was because they strictly adhere to a halal diet. The customer expressed their appreciation and inquired if we could continue providing halal meat in the future. They explained that due to their limited budget, the food bank is the only way they can afford to incorporate meat into their meals.
MSC strives to provide culturally relevant selections to our customers that visit the food bank. Donations help us provide these options to meet the diverse needs of our community, such as providing halal meat at the food bank or Latinx boxes for our home delivery program.
MSC’s food bank is open Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10am-2pm (except holidays). The food bank primarily serves the Federal Way area, but no one will be turned away.
