Over 150,000 individuals in WA State are at risk for losing SNAP benefits due to the work requirements and impacts of H.R.1 as of December 2025. Previously exempt demographics of vulnerable groups must meet work requirements or risk losing benefits, which include veterans, people experiencing homelessness, refugees, asylum seekers, and others.

The additional impact of this legislation is an increase in cost to the state budget. Vital SNAP education programming was also eliminated which supported nutrition and physical education to supplement SNAP dollars.
